Performance

“Dance, dance, otherwise we are lost.” - Pina Bausch

For Christopher performance has become a discipline, not simply to display virtuosity or to entertain, but to court and invite into being questions and forces that are otherwise difficult to name or contend. Shaped by butoh, the physical theatre lineage of Grotowski, and ritual, his work and processes seek to dance and disappear into wild places, flirt with the taboo, and inquire into and create dialogue regarding how we see what is beautiful and ugly, divine and profane.

Some Previous Works and Collaborations

Eve's Revenge

Eve’s Revenge is a descent into the belly of gender, sexuality and religion, escorted solely by a rakish, boa adorned and slightly bearded queen. It cuts into the paradox of gender from a different angle. Androgyny becomes a spin the bottle koan for the source of identity and a myth of union. The text is catty and personal, the movement absurd and poetic. It is drag, it is butoh, it is theater, and something else entirely.

The Carpetbag Brigade

Works performed with The Carpetbag Brigade including: Callings, Dios de la Adrenalina, and the Bi-Cultural Road Show. They foster a sense of psychic intimacy and poetic dialogue, transcending borders and addressing poignant themes from the political to the environmental to the mythic.
